We have recently reported that ING4, which was considered as inhibitor of growth, is located in the nucleli, binds several proteins that consist of ribosomes and is important in acceleration of ribosomal RNA synthesis and cell growth although it had been suggested as an inhiboitor of it before our report (Trinh et al, Sci Rep 9 17225, 2019). In this study, we studied the nature of the cellular stress response by challenging cells to stress factors such as DNA damage, oxidative and nucleolar stress, by focusing upon the growth protein inhibitors, including ING4 and ING5. We have, then, found that ING4 and ING5 were translocated to the stress-granules at a very early stage of cellular stress. Furthermore,ING4 was immediately translocatted to the position of DNA damage when cells were injured with lazer micro-irradiation of cells. There results may suggest a new role for the ING protein in the DNA damage response. The translocation to the granules in response to the cellular damage may support the idea that ING proteins protect cells from harmful effects under stress. Thus, ING proteins activities maybe the underlying mechanism of cells in response to stress conditions. We are investigating further, the role of ING4 and ING5 in the stress responses.
