My research has helped advance the use of portfolio optimization in systematic conservation planning frameworks to incorporate climate uncertainty across space and over time, and to overcome several technical challenges such as the scale of analyses, incomplete information and flexibility in conservation planning. The main focus areas of my research have been: 1) how to combine spatial and temporal uncertainty related to climate change in a single portfolio optimization approach; 2) how to combine Marxan and portfolio optimization framework to minimize the risk of climate uncertainty for fine scale conservation planning. I have applied my research to conduct conservation planning using case studies in Australia, in the USA, and in Japan.
