This project first aimed to investigate the impact of climate change, the elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration, and mitigation policies on global nutrition security. Then, this study tried to explore the countermeasures to alleviate their adverse effect. For these purposes, simulations under climate change scenarios (550ppm in 2050 and RCP8.5) and climate mitigation scenarios were conducted based on dietary intake data and integrated assessment models. Simulation results revealed that climate change and the elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration would jeopardize global nutrition security and aggravate inequality among different socio-economic groups. Meanwhile, climate mitigation could also reduce nutrient availability due to higher food prices. In addition, countermeasures, including consuming more nutrient-rich foods (such as fish products), could balance the adverse nutritional impact of climate change and mitigation policies. The findings of this project imply that climate change and mitigation policies have widespread nutritional implications on hidden hunger beyond the widely known effect on chronic hunger. Therefore, to achieve SDG2, we need to fully incorporate the micronutrient deficiency and inequality issues in policy making.
