研究実績の概要 |
The main purpose of this research is to examine the roles of major tourism events (such as the Olympics) on the revitalization of the tourism industries, particularly by communities impacted by recent disasters. We had applied for this budget in late 2019 and was awarded the grant in 2020. However by this time the COVID-19 pandemic has started, leading to the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics, whose status is still uncertain. As a result we were unable to conduct fieldwork in 2020 and may extend this project by another year depending on how the situation with the Tokyo Olympics evolves.
As of early 2021, we utilized a small portion of the budget to upgrade existing equipment, especially in relation to the increase in teleconferencing (computers, microphones, etc).

理由
When I submitted this proposal in late 2019, it was in the context of the Olympics occurring in 2020. The goal was to examine how businesses faired during and after the Olympics. However it is now April 2021 and the Olympics has still not occurred and its status is uncertain. This research project may be delayed by another year depending on the situation with the Olympics.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Currently, the status on how to proceed further hinges upon the decision whether to hold the Olympics or not. Thus far we have identified stakeholders in the Ryokan industries, tourism associations in the Tohoku Region, Shikoku Region and Kyushu regions, and local governments for potential interview. Should the Olympics were to occur, we hope to begin conducting fieldwork in the Fall of 2021.However in the event the Olympics fails, I've already planned an alternative research plan based on the Go To Travel campaign and how it helps local tourism businesses. I have already identified potential co-authors and have already developed surveys that can be distributed. In addition we may replace some fieldwork with surveys that could be outsourced to a company such as Rakuten to collect data, in order to be safer.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to 2020 covid-19 pandemic, I could not do any fieldwork, so we have a surplus budget that we hope to use this year, depending on the situation with the Olympics
