The GOAL project focused on aspects of self-directed daily activities of students such as daily reading habits in learning and monitoring physical activities for better lifestyle. To support them a process model is proposed named DAPER, where students can collect their activity data, analyze their status, plan, execute and monitoring their activity and reflect after the plan period. A web-based GOAL portal was built and integrated in a Japanese high school and junior high school learning management system. The learning activity data is logged from a reading based learning platform, BookRoll. GOAL system can track daily amount of pages and the time that the student is spending reading. The physical activity levels such as the steps taken and sleep actions are synchronized in the GOAL system from smartwatches such as Garmin device through web API. Data collected in the system is curated and we defined strategies to measure self-direction skills based on the activity data level as well as the DAPER interaction in the GOAL system. At the university level the GOAL system was introduce in the Kyoto University's reading based course. The user studies were conducted with both students from the school as well as university level. The research sheds light on various aspects of combining data from physical and learning context and utilized the it for the self-direction skill development.
