研究実績の概要 |
I completed a large percentage of my work packages such as mapping the ecology of predictive policing technologies in Europe, Japan, and North America. Finished surveying predictive policing technologies in border, national and cyber security. Performed on archival visits to libraries in Europe and Canada. I concluded initial investigation of risks of malicious use of large language models being used by criminal organizations. I have also conducted a series of follow up interviews with Interpol Thailand as well as started a new working and ongoing series of interviews with several media spokespersons of NATO from Greece.

2: おおむね順調に進展している
理由
The research is now starting to progress smoothly, after initial delays caused by COVID restrictions. These disruptions curtailed many aspects of my research project including interviews with prominent/key stakeholders in Europe, the United States, and Canada, archival research at some key libraries which were closed because of COVID (especially, in the United States) and other organizations such as NGOs, civil liberty organizations, and privacy groups. Luckily, COVID is no longer an issue and thus, my research work is moving forward without further delay.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
My plans are to complete the rest of my work packages including workshops with ordinary citizens in US, Europe and Japan to gauge their perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs about the prospects of predictive policing becoming a new normal in modern-day society. I also intend to conduct follow up interviews with law enforcement agents and spokespersons. Moreover, because of the meteoric rise and development of chatbots, I will visit some start-ups and legacy companies in the United States, Canada and Germany. Finally, besides publishing my efforts I intend to disseminate my research at conferences, workshops and guest lectures in the US, Canada and Europe.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The reasons for carry-over is due to the disruptions and delay caused in the initial two and half years of the global pandemic. During this time it was impossible to carry out the work packages as initially purposed and scheduled in the original application. However, the research project is progressing smoothly now so the funds are needed to perform the activities that were held back because of COVID 19. The remaining funds will be used to complete field research, conduct follow-up interviews and attend conferences to disseminate my work.
