赤外線スペクトルは彗星進化のバロメーター

研究概要

本研究により、彗星コマの赤外線スペクトル観測で検出されるカンラン石に特有のピークは、凝集体構造をした彗星塵のフラクタル次元によってその強さが決まるが、そのピーク波長は有機物の体積比率や炭素化度によって決まることが分かった。つまり、彗星表層のダストマントル形成過程でフラクタル次元が増加し、有機物の炭素化が進み、彗星進化に伴う塵の変成が彗星コマの赤外線スペクトルに現れる。このように、赤外線スペクトルが彗星進化のバロメーターになることが示された。こうした塵の変成は彗星の公転とともに進むことから、この研究をさらに進めれることで、彗星の公転軌道長半径と赤外線スペクトルとの相関が得られるものと推測される。
