今年度は<ジョークの翻訳の可能性>を中心に研究発表を海外で2回研究発表をした。
(1)Joke Interpretation and Cultural Differences : A Relevance-Theoretic Account
(2)Metalinguistic Jokes and Relevance
前者ではジョークの翻訳は文化的背景がわからないとむずかしいことを示した。
The difficulty of translating English jokes into Japanese comes from cultural gaps which can be formulated as an assumption or context in the framework of Relevance Theory.
The difficulty of translating Japanese humorous Senryu into English also comes from the cultural gaps between the two languages
後者ではメタ言語を含むジョークの翻訳であり、文字通りの翻訳では意味がわからなくなる、メタレベルの議論が必要であることが示された。jokes(e.g., definition jokes and metalinguistic jokes)can be captured by a kind of discrepancy between two interpretations in the framework of Relevance Theory. Definition Jokes comes from the discrepancy between'non-definitional interpretation'and'definitional'interpretation of a given sentence or word. Metalinguistic jokes are on the language form and not the meaning. In order to understand metalinguistic jokes, we have to be able to understand about language and its mechanics. The humor comes from the discrepancy between the actual world and the metalinguistic world, between the abnormal spelling and the normal spelling, and so on.
また、今後の研究のためのデータ収集が日本、海外で行われ、漫画翻訳のための資料として、日本語、英語による翻訳書などを買いそろえた。また、日本昔話の英訳書も入手した。日本独特なものの翻訳データとして分析をこれから進める。また、関連性理論による翻訳の利点を従来の翻訳論と比較研究するための翻訳関連書も購入した。字幕翻訳を研究するために、超字幕のCD-ROMを8本購入した。字幕の翻訳もこれからである。機材として、ノートパソコン1台と、ハードデイスクを買いそろえた。
