(1) We refined spatio-temporal distribution of Si in rice challenged with chewing herbivory stress and correlated the expression of main transporters Lsi1, Lsi2, Lsi6 and SIET4 with the observed Si accumulation patterns. We found that supplementation of Si is important for the maintenance of sugar and amino acid level balance. However, Si presence did not affect photosynthesis in rice. (2) We identified a major gene involved in the biosynthesis of isopentylamine (Aboshi group). (3) The effect of Zn, Ni, Cu and Cd on rice cells was examined using isolated leaf segments. An increase of metal toxicity and damage on leaf cells caused by rice brown planthopper co-infestation was determined . (4) The main results on role of Si and isopentylamine synthesis were submitted to JCR journals.
