研究成果の概要

研究者たちは、コミュニケーションと非コミュニケーションのテキストベースのタスクを実行する特別なオンラインコンピュータアプリケーションを開発した。このプログラムを使って行われた実験によると、どちらのタスクタイプでも言語発達に有意な向上が見られ、タスク間で絶対的な向上に差は見られなかった。しかし、生産的語彙の学習効率においては、コミュニケーション型タスクで有意差が認められた。コミュニケーションの分析から、文脈に応じた質問形成は、たとえ返答されなかった質問であっても、語彙学習効率と有意な相関があることが明らかになった。このことは、質問形成のプロセスそのものが効率の向上につながったことを示唆している。

This research found evidence for the effectiveness of 'dynamic' computer mediation in promoting language acquisition. The research also revealed a significant relationship between output production and vocabulary gains, supporting the importance of output in language learning.
