| 研究実績の概要 |
After having been unable to complete as much data acquisition in fiscal 2021 as we had desired due to COVID-19 restrictions preventing us from hiring research assistants, we were able to begin significant work in downloading, converting, and preparing data in fiscal 2022. While we are not yet caught up with the original timetable for the project, we have continued to acquire and process as much data as possible throughout the year. In order to avoid biasing our analysis by overemphasizing early data, we have decided to hold off on conducting detailed mathematical and thematic analysis of the data until we have acquired at least half of it.
In June 2022, we presented at the Conference on Global Education at Lakeland University in Tokyo on the results of our pilot study. This pilot study utilized many of the same methods that we plan to use for the main study on a related but more limited data set. The results indicated that the basic method is sound and is likely to yield useful results on the full data set.
Based on feedback from the presentation and our own discussions, we have decided to seek publication of the pilot results. We are currently writing a paper and intend to submit for publishing in 2023.

理由
Currently we continue to be in the middle of data collection. While we had hoped to add additional RAs to speed the work, we were unable to do so. However, we are continuing to explore options for accelerating the work in fiscal 2023. Furthermore, we have just added an additional co-researcher (not receiving funding) who will be assisting us in acquiring data we have previously not been able to access. We are also refining the parameters for our data analysis, which will begin to be done in fiscal 2023.
In addition, we have added data to the pilot project started in fiscal 2021, which has allowed us to discover additional findings. We are currently preparing a paper for publication on this project.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
This year we will continue mostly as planned previously. We anticipate that data collection will mostly or completely finish in fiscal 2023, enabling us to spend fiscal 2024 solely on analysis and publication. We anticipate it will be likely that we will need an extension of the project into a fifth year due to our inability to hire assistants in the first year of the project because of the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 emergency restrictions.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Next year we will be using funds primarily for personnel expenses. If we are able to find additional research assistants, we may also need to purchase additional computers and related equipment so that more research assistants can work simultaneously. There may also be miscellaneous expenses related to preparation of the publication of pilot study results.
