2021 年度 実施状況報告書

The difference between foreign language classes conducted by homeroom teachers and senka English teachers at the elementary school level, focusing on language activities and specific training needs.

研究実績の概要

During the first year we first conducted background research into the implementation of the new course of study and its goals and implications at the classroom level. Then we developed surveys to ascertain the extent of placement of senka teachers and the situation of FLA and English at elementary schools in Tokushima Prefecture (around 170 schools). An emphasis was also made on the specific training needs and experiences of the respective teachers. Following approval by the ethics committee at Shikoku University surveys were sent to the teachers responsible for English and senka teachers at each school respectively. The data from the surveys has been prepared and we are presently analyzing the data and hope to present at the JES national conference in July.

理由

The process to gain permission to conduct the survey took a little longer than expected and thus collection of data was slightly delayed. However, the data is now collected and ready for detailed analysis.

今後の研究の推進方策

Following analysis of the quantitative data from the surveys in year one, we hope to identify schools in which to conduct observations and interviews (approximately 4-6 schools).Classes taught in comparable situations by HRTs and senka teachers are to be observed and we hope to identify differences in language use and the type of and extent of language activities between classes taught by homeroom teachers and senka teachers. The teachers responsible for implementing the classes would then be interviewed with some emphasis on teachers training and experience and analyzed using NVivo Text Analytics for Surveys it is hoped, will provide guidelines for the kind of support homeroom teachers and senka teachers require.

次年度使用額が生じた理由

With lifted travel restriction we hope to be able to meet in person to analyze data collected and develop classroom observation techniques and surveys for the teacher interviews.
Local travel for class observation and Video recording materials will be used for observing classes and further post observation analysis.
