2022 年度 実施状況報告書

The difference between foreign language classes conducted by homeroom teachers and senka English teachers at the elementary school level, focusing on language activities and specific training needs.

研究実績の概要

During the first year we developed and conducted surveys to ascertain the extent of placement of senka teachers and the situation of FLA and English at
elementary schools in Tokushima Prefecture (around 170 schools). An emphasis was also made on the specific training needs and experiences of the
respective teachers. During the second year the data from the surveys was analyzing and presented at the JES national conference in July. 2 academic papaers are presently under review. To deepen our understanding 2 senka teachers and 2 homeroom teachers were identified for interviews and classroom research. Between February and March 2023 interviews were conducted and class videos were taken. It is hoped that the date can be analysed and presented at Asia TEFL 2023 and other national conferences.

理由

There was some delay in receiving permission to interview teachers and take videos of classes. The data is now collected and ready for analysis.

今後の研究の推進方策

Following analysis of the quantitative data from the surveys in year one, and qualitative data from interviews in year two we hope to identify differences in language use and the type of and extent of language activities between classes taught by homeroom teachers and senka teachers.
Interview data analyzed using NVivo Text Analytics for Surveys it is hoped, with evidence from class video analysis, will provide guidelines for the kind of support homeroom teachers and senka teachers require to successfully teach language classes at this level.

次年度使用額が生じた理由

Due to delays in permission for interviews and class videos data collection was delayed. Funding for data input and travel to meet to analyse data has been carried over to the next fiscal year.
