研究実績の概要 |
In the first year, good progress has been made with the four studies that comprise the project. Study 1 (longitudinal): Cooperation from a high school was secured and the first round of data collection (with 36 learners) was completed in Dec. 2021. Study 2 (pre- and post-study abroad): Cooperation from a high school was secured and the pre-study abroad round of data collection (with 41 learners) was completed in Mar. 2022, prior to the group's departure overseas. Study 3 (the four skills): To ease data collection, an online version of our data collection instrument has been created, and two potential pools of participants identified. Study 4 (cross-sectional): Data has been collected from 621 high school (Grades 1-3) learners, to go with previously collected data from university learners.

理由
Data collection has already commenced for three of the four studies that comprise the project and a considerable amount of data has already been collected. Preparations and firm plans are in place (with the cooperation of several institutions secured) for further collection of data for all four studies. Plans for the processing and analysis of the collected data have also been made and will be implemented imminently.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Further data collection for two of the four studies that comprise the project will take place in the coming months, with further data collection for the other two studies scheduled to take place later in the year. Processing and analysis of the collected data will begin imminently. Data collection has been paper-based thus far, so the first stage in processing the data will be converting it to an electronic format. The learner response data will then be scored, using an existing database of "good" responses", and statistical analyses will be conducted to assess the performance of different groups of learners. Learner collocation knowledge in comparison with proficiency will then be assessed.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Money is remaining because the price of the books purchased changed due to exchange rate variations. The remaining money will be used in 2022 to purchase additional books on collocations and language acquisition which will help further inform the research.
