| 研究実績の概要 |
Following the previous year’s research foci and strategies, the project has continued during the fiscal year 2023 to explore diverse instances of reflexive communication in institutional settings that draw salient attention to harmful or improper contact. The project has however experienced notable delay in undertaking planned research activities due to factors related to the principal investigator’s personal and professional circumstance. In terms of research accomplishments, the project has produced a conference presentation in a panel (co)organized by the principal investigator, which addressed themes centrally relevant to the project. After the conference, the panel participants suggested a possible future publication project, though this idea is still inchoate and no real action has been taken so far. The project’s research activities and insights are also reflected in a chapter published in an edited volume (an invited contribution), as well as an article in a peer-reviewed journal. While the project as a whole has experienced delay, some new loci of investigation have emerged, for example, the interaction between discourses of harmful communication and so-called “intercultural communication,” which will be more directly scrutinized during the final year of the project.

理由
The project is slightly delayed for reasons related to the principal investigator’s circumstances, which prevented me from carrying out research activities as planned. Given this delay, some of the ideas for research activities initially envisioned (such as fieldwork-based research) may have to be modified or redesigned so as to make them more feasible to conduct, though their significance in the project remains relatively unchanged. On the other hand, the analysis of textual material and the literature review have continued, and helped identify new loci of inquiry that I hope will further contribute to the project in a productive way.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
The final year of the project is envisioned in terms of three phases or layers. In the first layer, the project will continue with collection of textual data while getting prepared for field-based activities including interviews. The second layer of the project involves participation in scholarly dialogue and sharing, both in more formal registers (conferences, workshops, etc) and also in more informal ways (for example, reading groups). The third layer, positioned toward the end of the fiscal year, involves the publication of findings in scholarly platforms. While at this point there is no concrete plan for such publication projects, there is a potential publication opportunity based on the past and ongoing collaboration with other scholars.

The incurring amount is mostly due to the fact that research activities were rendered unfeasible by the principal investigator’s personal and professional circumstances during the fiscal year 2023. The following categories of relatively larger expenses are expected for the fiscal year 2024: domestic and international research/ conference travel; honoraria for research participants; fees for research related-services such as transcription and translation; purchase of books and relevant textual material.
