研究実績の概要 |
The initial stages of this research project have been completed successfully. Leyla Radjai, a PhD candidate at Waseda University's Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies, has worked with me as a research collaborator. Together we have conducted a pilot study comprised of document analysis and 11 semi structured interviews with educators involved in English medium instruction programs at a range of Japanese universities. Based on our analysis of documents and transcript data we have constructed some initial findings which have been disseminated through three presentations and one co-authored peer reviewed paper. Our findings have led to a shift in focus somewhat to explore Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programs as a form of Internationalization of Curriculum that has particular relevance in the context of the pandemic. Further interviews and data analysis with COIL program educators is currently underway.

2: おおむね順調に進展している
理由
The project is progressing according to schedule. While there have been some challenges establishing contact with potential interview participants at some universities, we have been making steady progress in terms of conducting interviews and reasonable progress in conducting a comprehensive review of relevant literature in English and Japanese.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Going forward we plan to conduct more interviews with educators involved in COIL projects and further document analysis. Findings from this work will be disseminated in the first instance in a working paper later this year.
In later stages it is our hope to engage in quantitative survey research and analysis, if possible with educators, administrators and students involved in EMI and COIL programs in Japanese universities.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to the pandemic there were no incurred costs in the first year of the project. All interviews were conducted online and funds were carried over to the following year with the intention of purchasing books, software for data analysis and other materials, with the hope of also undertaking domestic and international travel to conduct face-to-face interviews and participate in international academic conferences.
