研究実績の概要 |
I finalized a systematic study of the stability and ordering of low temperature magnetic states in the bulk helimagnet Cu2OSeO3 done in collaboration with the group of Katia Pappas (Delft university, the Netherlands). We focused our attention on the temperature and field dependencies of the tilted spiral state that we observed persisting up to above T=35 K, i.e. up to higher temperatures than reported so far. Since the stability region of the skyrmion phase displays strongly hysteretic behavior for increasing and decreasing magnetic fields, we addressed this important point using micromagnetic simulations and came to the conclusion that skyrmion nucleation is underpinned by the reorientation of oblique spiral domains occurring near the critical magnetic fields of the phase diagrams.

理由
In spite of the relatively hard world situation due to the pandemic, the project progresses rather smoothly. It was possible to publish 8 papers in high-rank peer-reviewed journals. At the same time, it was impossible to travel abroad. Thus, the collaboration with the experimentalists in Europe and USA became rather slow. Moreover, due to the economic slump, many experimental facilities in Europe function irregularly. Therefore, the experimental part of the project is slightly delayed. On the average, however, the project progresses rather smoothly since the theoretical part progressed faster than expected.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The project progresses rather smoothly. As for the magnetic part, joint theoretical and experimental results on Cu2OSeO3 demonstrate rather good compliance. The future plans include addressing experimental results in other bulk helimagnets such as MnSi and FeGe. As for the liquid-crystal part of the project, the theoretical modelling was completely finalized. The remaining point left are the experimental results in thin layers of chiral LCs. Thus, the future plans include explanation of the experiments obtained by the collaborators from the Smalyukh's group. Since presently, we are in the same institute (WPI-SKCM2), there is hope that we finalize this part of the project as well.
