研究実績の概要

The theoretical framework and methodology have been developed, and preliminary data collection from Brazil, Peru, and Colombia has started. At this stage, data collection includes 2 major news outlets from each country and a pilot study of Sao Paulo (Brazil) using satellite images. These results advance the planned activities for FY2021 and FY2022.

Socialization of the research topic has been ongoing since January 2022. Monthly online roundtables are being organized, with expert guest presentations and attendance of international scholars. Each roundtable has the participation of 15 to 20 researchers, professors and practitioners. These results advance the planned activities for FY2022 and FY2023.

3: やや遅れている

理由

Activities during FY2021 had to be delayed because the COVID pandemic made it difficult to find researchers available for collaboration in target countries. In particular, tasks related to satellite images had to be postponed until February 2022, delaying data collection. As a consequence, survey activities have also been postponed until the second half of FY2022.

However, as socialization activities have been already initiated, it is expected that the issues mentioned above will cause only limited changes to the schedule in the future. All data is expected to be succesfully analyzed by the beginning of FY2023.

今後の研究の推進方策

During FY2022, work will focus on data collection and continous socialization in online roundtables and international conferences.

All data analysis will be completed during the first half of FY2023. Remaining time will be used for the socialization of research results via a dedicated online platform, international conferences, and peer-reviewed publications.

次年度使用額が生じた理由

During FY2021, the COVID pandemic created problems for the hiring of research assistants specialized in the use of gepgraphic information and automatic text classification systems. This problem forced the project to also postpone related tasks, such as data purchase, data collection, and purchase of software. These activities are scheduled to be conducted during FY2022, requiring the availability of funds budgeted for that purpose.
