研究実績の概要 |
In a collaboration with other scientist I developed a novel method of cosmological simulations that are designed to represent actual observed structures. In the context of cosmological light-cones and high redshift observations, this method could not be successfully applied yet. I am happy to report that our work on constrained simulations has been finalized and we successfully submitted this work to the high impact journal 'Nature Astronomy' in November 2021 under the manuscript ID 'NATASTRON-21114799'. This work represents the first ever conducted constrained simulations effort on distant galaxy observations and predicts the future of cosmological structures over 11 Billion years in cosmic history. With this work, we were able to reproduce observed structures that were reported previously in literature. However, hitherto analyses were not able to consistently predict the faith of these observed structures, which is only possible with these kind of simulations.Having the correct large-scale environment at redshifts of 2-3 brings us in a unique position to study the peak of cosmic star formation, as this in turn is the origin of black hole binaries that source gravitational wave events. This method will proof very important for upcoming surveys like the Japanese PFS mission. Also, this work is the basis to predict the cosmological sources of gravitational waves, that will be done in the next step.

3: やや遅れている
理由
Unfortunately, I underestimated the amount of revision that the Journal 'Nature Astronomy' demanded. Also, although the original manuscript was submitted in November 2021, the reports came just several months after the submission. This has delayed the project but not for too much. I am behind my original schedule for about 3 months

今後の研究の推進方策 |
While the revisions of the first paper in Nature Astronomy, I started the preparations for the next step in this project and assessed the feasibility for localizing the sources of gravitational waves. Therefore, I want to change the scope of this project after discussions with experts like Will Farr at the Center for Computational Astrophysics at the Simons Foundation in New York. In the discussions, we noticed that the 'bias', i.e. how gravitational waves follow the large-scale structure of the Universe, has not been well studies. I will therefore dedicate a separate work on this topic before starting the hydrodynamical simulations. This is an exciting new perspective on this topic that was not considered before.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to the pandemic in 2021, it was not easy to keep the plan and travel as I was planing. The travel restrictions have been a major impeding factor for the whole project as international collaborations are the most important part of this research.
