Last year, various kinds of biomass-derived methyl glycosides were used as the platform to synthesize methyl deoxy glycosides via deoxydehydration reaction, and an effective Ag modified CeO2 supported ReOx heterogeneous catalyst was developed for this system. The cis-vicinal OH groups in the methyl glycosides could be easily removed over this catalyst in high yield with high selectivity. The original optical activity of the methyl glycosides was maintained during the reaction, which is very useful for the synthesis of highly valuable chemicals. In addition, another low-cost TiO2-supported MoOx combined Au catalyst was confirmed to be effective for the conversion of vicinal diols to the alkene, this catalyst will be applied to the deoxydehydration of methyl glycosides reaction next year.

理由
In the past year, I have discovered that the Ag promoter is highly effective in the CeO2-supported ReOx catalyzed deoxydehydration reaction with H2 as a reductant. The ReOx-Ag/CeO2 catalyst has high activity with high selectivity of deoxydehydration of alkane diols, sugar alcohols, methyl glycosides with cis-vicinal OH groups, and cis-1,2-cyclohexanediol. For example, methyl α-L-fucopyranoside can be converted to the corresponding dideoxy product in a yield of 94% with 97% selectivity. In addition, another titania-supported molybdenum oxide combined with Au nanoparticles catalyst was confirmed to be effective for the conversion of vicinal diols to the alkene with H2 as a reductant, for example, it can convert 1,4-anhydroerythritol to 2,5-dihydrofuran in a yield of 77% with 93% selectivity.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the next step, non-precious metal-modified heterogeneous catalysts for DODH and selective hydrogenation reaction will be investigated on methyl glycosides with cis-vicinal OH groups. For the selective hydrogenation catalyst, the active component will be screened, the cheaper DODH-active metal oxide (such as VOx, MoOx, and WOx) and hydrogenation active substitutes for novel metals (such as Co, Cu, Ni) in the catalyst will be conducted, the morphology controlled supports and/or catalysts will be synthesized, and the preparation method s of catalyst will be compared. In addition, downsizing the particles or clusters of active metal to single atoms in catalyst also will be conducted.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to the COVID-19, the research and experiments were suspended at the beginning of last year, therefore, the cost of consumables was lower than the planned amount. In addition, most of the international and foreign academic conferences were canceled or postponed, the used travel fee was also less than planned. The incurring amount will be allocated to the consumables, conference participation fees, travel fees, and on-campus joint research equipment usage fees in the next year. I will proper endeavor to maximize the usage of the grant in accordance with the rule, to get good research output.
