研究実績の概要 |
This project aims efficient electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction. Main strategy is to use porous materials (e.g. BCN, MOF) as supporting materials for metal catalysts to promote CO2 reaction reaction. During research activity in 1st year, MOF-derived Bi catalyst was successfully developed for formic acid production. Specifically, UiO-66 MOF was coupled with Bi particles by NaBH4 reduction method. As the result, Bi/UiO-66 catalysts show very high CO2 reduction activity as compared to Bi/C catalysts (more than 3 times higher current density). Although stability issue is currently remaining, CO2 utilization should be dramatically improved with MOF-derived structure. As another catalyst materials, boron carbon nitride (BCN) was successfully synthesized and coupled with Cu catalyst. Although it is not deeply address yet, it shows the feasibility for C2 products, in particular C2H4.

理由
Although I set the final target product is C2 chemicals, novel catalysts structure using MOF is successfully found in 1st year. In the viewpoint of material development, it can be considered to be progressed smoothly in the early stage of research. In addition, except for MOF-based catalysts structure, I synthesized boron carbon nitride (BCN) materials which are suggested in proposal for increasing CO2 utilization. The feasibility of BCN materials with Cu metal catalyst was achieved for C2 products. Thus, it is expected to be further developed in the remaining 2 years.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
First of all, UiO-66-derived Bi electrocatalyst would be further studied for higher stability and its mechanism on improved CO2 reduction. Some strategies such as hydrophobic catalysts will be tried for further activity improvement. Also, operando measurement (in situ Raman) will be done for revealing active sites and reaction mechanism. Secondly, Cu catalysts will be coupled with these synthesized porous materials (MOF, BCN) for C2 products.
