In FY2023, effects of vitamin B6 on satellite cell activity and muscle atrophy have been examined. As a results, a vitamin B6 deficient diet exhibited a significant decrease in the quiescent satellite cell (SC) pool in mouse muscles, as compared to the vitamin B6 supplemented diet. By the single myofiber culture experiment, vitamin B6 deficiency suppressed the proliferation and self-renewal of SCs during myogenesis. In the dexamethasone-induce muscle atrophy model, we found that vitamin B6 deficiency aggravated muscle atrophy, while vitamin B6 supplementation attenuated muscle atrophy. Vitamin B6 supplementation significantly suppressed the up-regulation of Murf-1 and Atrogin-1 expressions in muscles, suggesting that vitamin B6 possibly attenuated muscle atrophy via preventing muscle degradation.
