| 研究実績の概要 |
In FY2021, initial set-up and beginning of major data collection was accomplished in line with the proposed research approach of "context mapping". In particular, this year's research in Cambodia and Japan focused on (A) Spatial Research and (B) Place-Based Value Chain Analysis.
1. Publishing: 1 International peer-reviewed theory article about place-based development (first-author). DOI: 10.1080/09640568.2020.1820314
2. [Japan] First ever database created of all place-based agri-food certifications in Japan, including GIs.
3. [Japan] Data collection of old heritage products in Mikawa Region, Aichi Prefecture.
4. [Cambodia] Supervised contract data collection of un-valorized heritage products, with partners in Svay Rieng province, Cambodia.

理由
The research project included conservative estimates for data collection considering Covid-19 travel and research restrictions.
1. Progress was ensured by implementing research steps not affected by pandemic restrictions, such as theory paper writing, database creation and desk research.
2. Foreign country research was implemented by partnership in Cambodia and supervised carefully by PI.
3. Domestic fieldwork was conducted with careful consideration of public health restrictions.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
FY2022 will proceed with more international research and physical conference travel, as planned in initial research proposal. Phase A of the research will continue, but with more focus on Rapid Livelihood Analysis, thanks to the potential for more direct fieldwork.
1. Conference visits in Europe, Australia, and Japan for major international congresses and workshops.
2. Fieldwork in Cambodia to follow-up on contract research and continue Context Mapping with different agri-food products and local producer groups. Targets for FY2022: fish paste, citrus, and sausage.
3. Fieldwork in Japan on specialty beef, grape products, buckwheat (soba), and wild plants in four prefectures.
4. Publication of at least two peer-reviewed journal articles and one edited book chapter.

The amount is minimal. The project is basically within budget.
