Homeless people face several financial and non-financial barriers to accessing health care, and they are frequently stigmatized as troublesome and undesirable patients. The aim of this study is to analyze the changes on students’ attitudes of medical and nursing programs toward homeless people and the effect of age, gender, or any contact with homeless people on these attitudes. The Health Professional Attitudes Toward the Homeless Inventory (HPATHI), will be administered to medical students and nursing students of the Nagoya City University Japan from AY 2022-2027.
The HPATHI was completed by 85 first-year medical students, for an overall response rate of 85%. The records of 85 students (57 males, 27 females, and 1 other gender) who had all required data were used for data analysis. The mean HPATHI score at baseline was 57.8 (min 51, max 82) out of maximum 90 on the instrument. Only five students had previous contact with homeless people during their first-year medical program. On the other hand, the HPATHI was completed by 74 first-year nursing students, for an overall response rate of 92.5%. The records of 74 students (1 males, 73 females, and 1 other gender) who had all required data were used for data analysis. The mean HPATHI score at baseline was 67.6 (min 55, max 84) out of maximum 90 on the instrument. Only five students had previous contact with homeless people during their first-year medical program.

理由
For the longitudinal study, the administration of the survey forms has been conducted as planned in AY 2022 and AY 2023 to the medical students. However, the survey has yet to be conducted to the second-year nursing students in AY 2023. The schedule was already set.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
This is a longitudinal study based on before and after surveys, and series of cross-sectional surveys. The target participant will be the medical and nursing students enrolled in the university from AY 2022 to AY 2025 (nursing program, in progress), AY 2022 to AY 2027 (medical program, in progress), graduating students from AY 2021 (accomplished) to AY 2025 and first year-students from AY 2023 (accomplished, medical only) to AY 2025.
The researcher is also planning to participate to aligned academic meetings, especially meetings on public health, medical sociology and sustainable development. The current preliminary data is being carefully analyzed and at the same time the writing of article is in progress.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The researcher has decided to postpone all planned participation in academic meetings in the past couple of years because of COVID-19, and focused more on assuring that data will be collected as proposed. Moving forward, using preliminary data, the researcher is planning to participate in face-to-face academic meetings and conduct fieldwork where homelessness is present. In addition, the researcher is evaluating which collected data can be used for publication since this is already the 3rd year of the grant.
