研究実績の概要 |
The objective of this study is to evaluate the interaction effect of genetic risk for neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) and body mass index (BMI) changes during infancy (birth to 24 months) on the severity of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) traits among Japanese children at age 6, 8, and 12 years while adjusting for other nosocomial/environmental factors. Our study included 1,258 children from Hamamatsu Birth Cohort for Mother and Child (HBC Study) with available follow-up information. The main exposures of this study are (1) changes in BMI (standard deviation scores) between birth to 24 months of age (2) genetic risk for NDDs. The outcomes are: symptoms of ADHD and ASD measured at 6, 8 and 12 years. Data management for follow-up interviews conducted at 6 years and 8 years of age were completed. Polygenic risk scores for ADHD and ASD were estimated. We have completed follow-up interviews of 160 children aged 12 years and mother. We will continue to conduct follow-up interviews in the next academic year. Along with many background factors, the symptoms of ADHD and ASD among children at age 12 years are being measured using the Conners Rating Scale for ADHD, and Social Responsiveness Scale, the second version (SRS-2) respectively through a face-to-face interview.

1: 当初の計画以上に進展している
理由
We conducted a literature review of existing studies on the topic of early BMI changes on neurodevelopment and related disorders. We did not find any similar studies, particularly among Japanese population.
Data management for existing data was completed. Polygenic risk score for autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders were calculated. In addition, we have completed follow-up interviews of 160 children aged 12 years and their caregiver using a paper-and-pencil survey.
As part of this project, we published a paper on low birth weight, genetic risk and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in BMC Medicine.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
We are planning to complete the follow-up interviews for around 500 children aged 12 years by this academic year. In addition, we will complete initial data analysis for another manuscript.
