研究実績の概要 |
1. During 2021 academic year I have invested most of my research on collecting materials about heritage preservation and tourism development in the living heritage sites in various countries in Asia, mostly in Vietnam, China and Japan. I have also searched for the data on the impact of Covid-19th pandemic on the popular with tourists Old Towns in Vietnam and China, which suffered the most during 2020, and had domestic tourism revival during 2021. 2. I have presented my research findings at ICAS-12, the international conference on Asian studies, and my article titled "Heritage Commoditization in the Living Heritage Sites: A Case of 'Creative Destruction' in Lijiang’s Old Town in China" (submitted on February 13th, 2022) was accepted for publication in the journal of the conference proceedings, which will be published online by Leiden University at the end of May 2022. 3. During August 2021 - February 2022 I've organized Kyoto University's first virtual international interdisciplinary workshop on Living Heritage Sites, which brought together on 22.2.22 researchers from Asia, Europe and USA, to discuss, over the course of 9 hours, the challenges of heritage preservation and the conflicts between tourism and indigenous livelihoods in sites which had received heritage designation. The workshop was very productive for my own research in Hoi An's and Lijiang's Old Towns, and has expanded my academic network in the fields of tourism and heritage studies. This project is ongoing and a full recording of the conference will be posted on CSEAS website.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
During 2022 I am planning to continue data collection from various living heritage sites in Japan, Vietnam and China, and hope to conduct fieldwork in Hoi An in Vietnam later in 2022, when Israeli citizens will be allowed to enter Vietnam. In the meantime, I would like to summarize the data from the first-year research and publish two more articles on my findings. I am also planning to organize second international workshop on the living heritage sites. Moreover, I need to continue acquiring videography skills in order to make short films during my fieldwork in various heritage sites.
