Data collection and field study: In order to achieve the main research objectives, quantitative data was collected from local community members engaged with community-based tourism in Japan and South Korea. The data was collected by offline and online questionnaires, and the data obtained by the questionnaire was statistically analysed using statistical analysis software. The local residents’ motivation for participating in community-based tourism, the levels of engagement, the contents operated, and the characteristics of the residents were examined. The research findings indicate that engagement in community-based tourism triggers various aspects of identity-related motivations, as the research hypothesized. In addition to the questionnaire, the researcher interviewed academics and practitioners from academia, research institutions and local Destination Marketing Organizations to understand the practice of community-based tourism and the issues that emerged during the initiatives. The researcher conducted a field study in Ansung, Hongchun, and Busan in South Korea.
International conference presentation:The research findings based on the questionnaire conducted in AY2023 were actively disseminated by presenting at prestigious international conferences. These include ‘SURREY 2023 CONFERENCE: Bringing Hospitality, Tourism, Transport and Events Back for Good, University of Surrey, United Kingdom (5-7 July 2023) and Asia Pacific Conference 2023: Shaping a New World from Asia Pacific, University of Ristumeikan Asia Pacific University, Japan (2-3 December 2023).

理由
Data collection from the questionnaire could not be accomplished as planned due to unexpected challenges. One of the challenges was the time taken to approach residents who engaged in community-based tourism in Japan and South Korea. This lack of resources, especially in quantitative data, impeded the research progress in AY2023. Additionally, there were insufficient resources for collecting secondary data. It may have included difficulty accessing relevant literature, databases, or datasets necessary for conducting thorough literature reviews or data analysis.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The planned questionnaire and interviews in Japan and South Korea for AY2023 could not be conducted due to limited time and limited numbers of participants. For AY2024, the research fund will cover data collection (e.g. interviews, questionnaires, secondary data, etc.) and relevant personnel expenses (e.g. travel cost, hiring part timer, etc.). The detailed expenses include interview incentives for interviewees, broad surveys and incentives for participants, and hiring research assistants for data collection. In addition to the research fund planned for AY2024, the research fund will also be used for conference presentations and travel costs for dissemination of the research findings.
