研究実績の概要 |
Year 1 multilingual case study objectives have been accomplished, and findings related to the identification of Old English/Latin language ideologies were presented at the 37th Japan Society for Medieval English Studies Congress (Dec 2021 "Emblematic Code-Switching and Language Use: A Multilingual Perspective on Archbishop Wulfstan’s Baptismal Homilies"). Revised and extended findings have also been submitted to Neophilologus for publication and are currently under peer-review. Year 2 multiliteral case study is currently ongoing and slightly ahead of schedule. Findings from initial case study were published in Dec 2021 as a peer-reviewed article in Humanities 10.4 ("An Unseen Eighth Rune: Runic Legacy and Multiliteral Performativity in Cynewulf’s The Fates of the Apostles").

1: 当初の計画以上に進展している
理由
The project is slightly ahead of schedule, as the Principal Investigator has been able to dedicate a larger percentage of his time and effort to it than initially anticipated. This has allowed for Year 1 and Year 2 objectives to be pursued simultaneously from the outset, and is also what prompted the request for a portion of Year 2 funds to be brought forward into Year 1.
|
今後の研究の推進方策 |
The Year 2 multiliteral case study is still currently ongoing and to be continued throughout the 2022 fiscal year. The Principal Investigator is also scheduled to present further findings from this research in July 2022 at the International Medieval Congress held at Leeds University, United Kingdom ("Cynewulf’s Questioning of the Borders of Script and Orality in The Fates of the Apostles").
The Principal Investigator is also currently in the process of producing a monograph draft addressing the themes of this project's case studies (Working title: Old English Multiliteralism: A Semiotic Approach through Cynewulf), and this work is envisioned to continue through the end of the fiscal year.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
A portion of the funds originally planned for use in Year 2 were brought forward to Year 1 owing to the project's accelerated rate of progress, and in order to help achieve some of the Phase 2 objectives + open-access publication of results earlier than initially anticipated. The amount remaining from Year 1 funds will be applied to the ongoing Phase 2 research efforts of the project. The plan of usage remains as set out in the original proposal with major envisioned expenses as follows: international conference attendance/presentation (Leeds IMC), purchase of reference materials/supplies.
