研究実績の概要

The proposal has been adopted in November 2021 and we have immediately started discussion through both on-line and face meeting for the implementation of the research project and to define precisely the protocols of the different activities that are planned for the next two years.
We have started purchasing the equipment’s which will be used in continuously in Thailand during the project and prepared administrative paper works.
The PI travelled to Thailand for one week on another budget, visited the field site and laboratory facilities and met with all Thai partners to prepare for the implementation of the research and agree on the degree of involvement of Thai partners and their responsibilities in the project.

理由

The project is progressing rather smoothly. All protocols have been detailed, discussed and shared with our Thai partners. The methane analyser (LI-7810, Licor, Lincoln, Nebraska USA) has been purchased and tested. Meetings have been organised with the Japanese team and with the Thai partner as schedule
Due to Covid 19, the closure of the borders of Thailand which was only partially left in February and the border rules to return to Japan from a foreign country, it seemed reasonable to us to postpone the first campaign the first campaign of intensive measurements initially planned for March 2022 for a few months.
Several operations have been conducted, including the plan and quotation for bringing electricity on site, sampling and sanding wood samples for anatomical studies, test of soil extraction protocols with the equipment’s available in Kasetsart University (Bangkok).
We have also secured the procedures to export samples from Thailand and to import them to Japan, and the procedure for travelling with equipment. Administrative paper work is ongoing.
We are fully ready to have our first intensive measurement campaign in early September

今後の研究の推進方策

The first intensive measurement campaign will be done in early September this year. A second one is planned in February 2023, a third one in August 2023 and the last one in March 2024.
All planned activities will be conducted: long-term survey of soil methane uptake (from Sep 22 to March 24), the effect of the addition of fertilisers on the potential rates of methane oxidation (Aug 23), sap flow measurements to estimate tree water use (from Sep 22 to March 24), availability of the mineral forms of nitrogen and phosphorus (in Sep 22, Feb 23, Aug 23 and March 24), the estimation of gross mineralization and dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium on intact soil cores in the field using the 15N pool dilution method (in Feb 23 and Aug 23) and the quantification of the abundances of the genes of the particulate CH4 monooxygenase methanotrophic bacteria and of the ammonia monooxygenase subunit A gene of the ammonia oxidising bacteria and archaea (in Feb 23 and Aug 23).
Between each intensive measurement campaign, the Thai partner will be in charge of measuring soil methane flux bimonthly and to take care about the sap flow sensors

次年度使用額が生じた理由

The reason is that the first trip in Thailand for research activity was initially scheduled in March 2022 but postponed to September 2022 due to the Covid 19 and border restrictions.
