| 研究実績の概要 |
当初の計画では、1ヵ国で、アンケートを配ったり、インタビューしたりする予定だったため、調査対象者は450名、インタビュー調査の調査対象者は25-30名としていたが、平成26年度に，カンボジア5大学（3ヵ所）とベトナム11大学（７ヵ所）でアンケート調査(調査対象者は1,751名の大学生)、教員と学生（181名の学生）へのインタビュー、そして授業見学を行うことができた。26年度中には研究代表者および研究協力者が，これらの結果について論文２件出し、２回の学会報告で議論し，また，カンボジアとベトナムの大学において講演(計６回)した。または、日本の世界遺産でボランティア活動団体の為も講演を開いた。データ収集と詳細な分析を行って、主として次の傾向が伺えた。
(1) Awareness of the 2015 ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and the resulting importance of English, varied among ASEAN countries. Cambodian and Vietnamese university students rarely mentioned it while Thai students considered it a primary motivation for studying English.
(2) Cambodia (Expanding Circle) is less developed than Malaysia (Outer Circle). However, the percentage of university students who felt English is useful in their country was nearly identical.
(3) 90% of the university students in most Southeast Asian (including Cambodia and Vietnam) and East Asia countries believe English is a useful language in their own country, but only 85% of Japanese university students and 64% of Korean university students held the same belief.
(4) Asian university students believe katakana English seriously impairs Japanese people’s comprehensibility.
(5) Opinions about the usefulness of English in different regions were found to be statistically significant.
