研究概要

非一様・非等方性電離層と Alfven 波によって運ばれる沿磁力線電流系の相互作用について、電離層電流が伝導度勾配領域を横切る時に生じる分極場生成プロセスを3次元電流クロージャーの観点からの定式化し、数値実験によって、Cowling チャンネル生成過程の可視化に成功した。特に電離層内で生じる Hall 電流発散がどれだけの割合で磁気圏に流出し、どれだけの割合で電離圏内部に閉じ込められるのかを一意決定するCowling 効率の理論的導出は画期的であり、磁気圏電離圏結合科学の理解を深化させる新しい概念の確立へと繋がった。
