| 研究実績の概要 |
Between April to July 2022 I began exploring the medical literatures on food allergy treatments in Japan and the UK, looking specifically at Oral Immunotherapy Treatments and debates about the current scientific evidence for this treatment and the ethics of using it outside clinical trials. I also explored the treatment guidelines published in Japan and the UK. In addition, I began a literature review of anthropological and sociological research on food allergies to date. From August 1 2022 until March 31 2023 I was working as the Toyota Visiting Professor at the Center for Japanese Studies at the University of Michigan, and therefore the research was on hold during this time while I was outside Japan.

理由
Because I was in the US for most of the 2022-2023 academic year I was unable to progress with the research and therefore have had to delay the research for one year. Until this point, as noted above, I began reading extensively about the current situation of food allergy treatment in Japan and the UK. However, because I was working in the US for most of the academic year I was unable to do any fieldwork or use the grant and therefore have postponed the study for one year. I have, however, been building a database of relevant literature in English and Japanese.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
This year I plan to conduct preliminary fieldwork at medical conferences in Japan and to develop a deeper understanding of the current situation of food allergy treatment options, protocols, and ways of thinking in Japan and the UK. In particular, I will attend EAACI's yearly conference in June 2023 (online this year but in person next year). I also hope to attend BSACI's conference in the UK in October (dependent on the start of the academic semester). And I will attend the 日本アレルギー学会学術大会 in October in Tokyo.
I will also reach out to relevant medical establishments in the UK and Japan to see if I can gain observer status to conduct fieldwork in clinics and hospitals on how treatments are carried out in different settings.

Because I was in the US between August 2022 and March 2023 I was unable to use any of the research funds from this project. I plan to use last year's money in the way I had originally planned to use it last year: to conduct early fieldwork at medical conferences in Japan and the UK, and in hospitals/clinics that treat food allergies in Japan and the UK.
