研究実績の概要 |
The aim of this study is to demonstrate the application of seismic data for estimating the discharge in a river basin particularly during a flooding event. This research is based on the interdisciplinary subjects i.e., Hydrology and Seismology.
Based on Hi-net observations and hydrological data availability, we selected mountainous river basins for the hydrological simulations. We then examined the relationship between Hi-net data and water flow data, as well as simulated discharges during a flood event. We found that the flow of a nearby river and Hi-net in mountainous river basins reflected a similar patterns, especially during a high peak flow of the flood event. At this stage, the results indicated that seismic noise data in the frequency range of 1-2 Hz exhibited a similar trend to the simulated discharge values. Further evaluation of the relationship between seismic and river flow data has been examined. Some of these findings have been published and presented at national and international conferences and in feature article.

理由
At the beginning of our research in 2022, we were unable to accelerate our planned meetings and discussions mainly due to the COVID-19 emergency. Therefore, our research plan is slightly behind the stated schedule. Our planned field survey was also delayed due to the COVID-19 situation last year.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
We are trying to perform hydrological simulation of some river basins in Japan considering several flood events cases. A comparative analysis has carried out between extracted simulated river discharge of river points and nearby Hi-net data (different frequency ranges) in mountainous river basins. Part of those results will be presented during the September 3-6, 2023, JSHWR annual meeting.
An appropriate frequency range of noise data will be determined at each Hi-net station to predict nearby river flow in mountainous river basins. Furthermore, a suitable empirical relationship is expected to be developed at some seismic stations to predict river discharge in a regular time interval. Research outcomes will be submitted to peer-reviewed journals and national/international conferences.
