研究実績の概要 |
Our purpose in this study is to record neuronal activity from the hippocampus of freely-moving monkeys in a three-dimensional environment to evaluate the relationship between movement direction and place cell responsiveness. We have trained a monkey to move within this three-dimensional environment by rotating clockwise or counterclockwise, and continue development of a primate behavior monitoring system using AI. This year, we used evoked potentials to accurately map the location of the hippocampus and successfully recorded a number of hippocampal neurons stably with good signal within our three-dimensional environment under awake conditions using telemetry.

理由
Behavioral monitoring using a camera system with TTL synchronization to the neuronal recording via telemetry has been established and works reliably. The monkey has been well trained to navigate the 3D environment in both the clockwise and counter clockwise directions. Mapping to locate the hippocampus with high fidelity has been performed and has enabled precise targeting of the microdrive-equipped tetrodes. Neuronal recording via chronically implanted tetrodes has also been proceeding smoothly, with stable signal over long time courses, including during behavior as the animal freely navigates the 3D environment.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
We will continue to record signals from more hippocampal neurons as the monkey navigates the 3D environment, with simultaneous synchronized video tracking using our camera system. We will proceed with analyzing the recorded signals with cluster cutting and analysis of the spike data using the animal positions provided by our behavioral tracking system.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
We will use the remaining funds for several purposes, including for materials needed to continue to produce tetrodes and perform surgery and maintenance of the chronic chambers on experimental monkeys, and animal maintenance and surgical supplies, in addition to any materials required in continuing development of the AI monitoring system. In addition, funds will be used as the project nears completion to present the results at conferences and to publish the findings.
