研究実績の概要

We have published our finding on the detection of the two strongest OH emission vibrational bands from the day-side of WASP-33b using IRD Subaru data. We also have detected CO, H2O, and Fe emissions on the day-side of MASCARA-1b using CRIRES+ and constraining its atmospheric parameters. Currently, we have tested our CPU-based retrieval pipeline to be robust and used it to constrain various atmospheric properties of WASP-33b assuming chemical equilibrium. From the line-broadening of its emission spectrum, we found that the planet is tidally-locked consistent with the prediction. We also found that the atmosphere is slightly hotter and has a higher metallicity in the pre-eclipse than post-eclipse indicating an asymmetrical/non-homogenous atmosphere (relative to the sub-stellar point).

理由

Although the timeline and method have slightly changed, we learned a lot about how to perform atmospheric retrieval on high-resolution spectroscopy data robustly. We found that with the current development, it is more realistic and achievable to perform retrieval using pre-calculated cross-sections

For the chemical phase curve, however, there is a lot that needs to be investigated as we found that the interpretation of the results is a bit complicated. Especially when we have a non-homogenous atmosphere where line-masking effects by feature-rich opacities can lead to wrong interpretation. For example, if water abundance is high close to the morning terminator then it can mask the lines from other opacities in the morning terminator making them look unevenly distributed even if they are

今後の研究の推進方策

I am planning develop our existing atmospheric retrieval pipeline to be able to perform free retrieval on the atmosphere of ultra-hot Jupiter more realistically and adopt the pipeline to the JAX environment GPU-based to make it run more efficiently. Lastly, once we publish the WASP-33b result, I am planning to perform a study using realistic spectra produced by 3D GCM simulation and investigate the robustness of the chemical phase-curve technique to retrieve the simulated properties as well as analyse other datasets that we have.

次年度使用額が生じた理由

I am going to give a talk about our latest result on WASP-33b at the Exoplanet V conference in Leiden, Netherlands. I am also going to give a talk at the ELT Science in Light of JWST at Tohoku University. So the remaining budget will be used to pay for peer-reviewed journal fees, travel fees, and books.
