研究実績の概要

In pursuit of miniaturization, our focus is on achieving magnetoelectric coupling in molecular crystals, particularly those with strong inter-spin interactions. A new strategy for obtaining polar crystals has been established, and the results were published. Moreover, our research has successfully led to the synthesis of polar crystalline materials composed of a spin-frustrated complex, exhibiting pyroelectric behavior and the potential for magnetoelectric coupling observation. We have scheduled further measurements to analyze the magnetic field effect on these materials. Additionally, we discovered another polar crystalline material with a giant magnetic field-induced polarization change due to spin crossover.

理由

A general strategy for obtaining polar crystals has been established, and the results were published.A target molecular crystal with both spin-frustrated magnetic structure and pyroelectric behavior has been successfully synthesized, which would potentially exhibit magnetoelectric coupling. By screening in the synthesized complexes in our lab, a spin crossover complex that exhibit unprecedentedly large polarization change induced by magnetic field has also been found.

今後の研究の推進方策

We will persist in synthesizing structurally related complexes to diminish superexchange, ultimately yielding a lower critical magnetic field. From these, we will identify the most promising candidates for comprehensive characterization under magnetic field.
