研究実績の概要

Since Protists are overlooked in paddy field soil and mostly neglected in soil microbiology studies, I wrote two review articles focusing on protists to highlight their importance in the paddy field soil ecosystem. The first review article was written to highlight the research needs and discuss potential research ideas on biochar–protist interaction, which would advance our knowledge of biochar–microbe interaction. This article was published in the top journal of the Soil Science category, Biochar. This 2nd review highlights the essential roles of protists in a wetland rice field soil and the need for further research to fill the gaps in knowledge regarding the diversity and functions of the protists in this unique agroecosystem. In another study, we focused on the effects of protists on active bacterial communities in paddy field soils, which was recently published in one of the top journals of Soil Science, Biology and Fertility of Soils. Since one of the aims of this project is to understand protist-endophytic bacteria interaction, we made research aiming to investigate the effects of soil as a microbial source on the assemblage of the endophytic bacterial communities in rice roots, which was recently published in Biology and Fertility of Soils. Although not yet published, we have finished 2 more studies. One study focused on the effect of nitrogen-based fertilizers on protist communities, which was awarded "Excellent Poster Presentation Award" by the scientific committee of the KAAB International Symposium 2023.

2: おおむね順調に進展している

理由

So far, we have published 4 papers and currently 2 studies is almost finished. The manuscripts are in progress and we plant ro submit the two articles within this year. The main research focusing on protist - endophyte interaction is going smoothly.

今後の研究の推進方策

We are planning to submit two studies within this year. In addition, our research showed that protists enhance endophytic bacterial communities. We are planning to conduct new studies to understand the mechanism behind this.
