研究実績の概要 |
Research in the past year involved mainly the systematic literature review part of the proposed research project. We have completed full-text review of selected papers, performed data extraction and synthesized results in a full-length article. Our final sample includes 87 scientific articles reporting on experiments from 4 sense modalities (touch, vision, hearing and proprioception). Anticipating a potential for high impact of this publication, we augmented our methodology with additional steps to ensure superior quality. Specifically, we followed the widely accepted PRISMA guidelines for systematic literature reviews, complementing data analysis with comprehensive reporting of our methods, quality analysis of selected articles and quantitative comparisons in addition to a narrative synthesis. Our review highlights existing gaps in the field and points the way to more theoretically grounded studies.
The first behavioral experiment that was reported on in the previous project progress report was presented at the main Cognitive Science Society conference. The feedback was very positive, emphasizing the importance of considering higher level cognitive factors in active perception. The second experiment planned for the second project year was aborted. Our analysis of the system setup made it clear that the robotic platform that was provided for this research is not suitable for human behavioral experiments. In the future, it is advisable to adopt more minimal settings that are easier to integrate with computational modeling and physiological data recordings.
