研究実績の概要 |
The research activities conducted so far consisted of reading the most recent publications on the three morality issues investigated by the project (e.g. same-sex marriage, abortion, and assisted reproductive technologies), with specific attention to the Japanese scholarship, and collecting material. However, I focused on same-sex marriage as this question has received much attention from the Japanese public opinion, scholarly community, and international press. I collected policy papers, studied court rulings, attended public debates about same-sex marriage, and interviewed over 15 LGBTQ activists, lawyers involved in same-sex marriage litigations, and Japanese national lawmakers and local administrators. I started to write two working papers that would be completed in the next three months.

理由
The current status of the research is a little bit behind the planned schedule, even though we have made quick progress in the last three months that allowed recovering the delay. This delay was justified by the involvement in several research projects Dr. Bolzonaro was conducting before coming to Japan. In consideration of the fact that the arrival date was unsure due to the COVID 19 border restrictions forced him to postpone the arrival several times, he engaged in other research activities. Therefore, in the early months in Japan he had to spend some time to finish the previous research activities.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the following months, Dr. Bolzonaro is conducting at least 10 other interviews that he has already scheduled besides other interviews that he is arranging. Then, he will continue to analyse the collected material. As research outputs, he has started to write a comparative research paper about same-sex legal litigations with a Waseda Law professor and we are discussing writing an article about the politics of same-sex marriage. The preliminary results of the studies will be presented at three international conferences: ISSR biannual conference in Taipei, the ASA annual conference in Philadelphia, and the ECPR annual conference in Prague.
