研究実績の概要 |
An organic semiconductor device for highly selective sensing of DNA was prepared and the device characteristics were analyzed. The device was assembled using doped organic semiconductor thin film with self-assembled selective DNA sensing layer. Thiol monolayer chemistry was used to assemble an active layer containing complementary DNA strands. DNA labeled with a bulky fluorescent dye promotes the selectivity of the device due to steric hindrance and intermolecular interactions of the dye (supramolecular effects). The sensor device exhibits exclusive sensing of complementary DNA at attomolar level making it highly suitable for detection of selected DNA sequences. Due to its high sensitivity, the device is useful for detection of disease DNA or other DNA without requiring polymerase chain reaction step. The device structure is such that it can be developed for other analytes.

理由
The sensing device has been successfully prepared and operation for the sensitive detection of DNA has been established using the methods stated in the plan. The device has excellent characteristics and can be used for highly selective (effectively exclusive) detection of complementary DNA sequences. A manuscript has been prepared and is being finalized for submission. The device is currently be designed for detection of other analytes.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
After successful preparation of the OFET device, we are now designing the next generation of sensing device by changing the probe layer. Introduction of various active probe molecules in the organic layer will allow detection of many other analytes. The operation of similar devices based on gold nanoparticles will be attempted. The devices can also be developed to operate as a molecular electronic device for information processing using organic molecules. These matters are now under investigation.
