Firstly, we investigated an innovative approach to fabricate formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) quantum dots (QDs) by replacing Octadecene (ODE), a primary solvent in the hot injection synthesis process, with Octene (OCE), a shorter linear alpha olefin. This substitution enabled the production of photoactive films with controllable thicknesses. Remarkably, we achieved an unprecedented absolute photoluminescence quantum yield of up to 84%, a significant improvement from the 70% obtained with ODE. The results showed a remarkable enhancement in average power conversion efficiency (PCE), increasing from 200% to 150%, along with consistently higher values for open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current density for the Octene-based solar cell compared to its ODE-based counterpart.
