研究概要

光は地球に生息する生物に普遍的な環境シグナルであり、光合成作用のエネルギー源である。私たちは光合成をするシアノバクテリアに存在する新しいカテゴリの光受容体シアノバクテリオクロムを発見した。本研究では、複数の異なる性質をもつシアノバクテリオクロムの結晶構造を決定し、発色機構やシグナル伝達機構を解明した。細胞内二次メッセンジャー分子であるサイクリックジグアニル酸の合成を青色光で活性化する機構、分解をシアン光で活性化する機構を発見した。さらにこれらのシアノバクテリオクロム遺伝子の破壊の組み合わせ解析により、好熱性シアノバクテリアの細胞凝集とセルロース生産を光で調節する現象を分子レベルで解明した。
