星間乱流の起源の観測的研究

研究概要

分子雲境界部の12CO高分解能観測から、サイズ数千AUの分子雲微細構造を検出した。微細構造のスペイクトル線幅は典型的に分子雲中で得られるものの半分以下であり、分子雲は均一なガスからなるのではなく、高温低密度に広がった媒質の中にある、低温高密度で熱平衡状態にある微細構造の集合体として存在することを示した。これは理論的二相媒質モデルでよく説明され、その成因として暖かい原子ガスの熱的不安定性が示唆された。これは原子ガスからの分子雲形成という、星間物理学の大きな問題の解決への糸口を示した物で、より高分解能観測の分子および原子ガスの観測的研究へと繋がり、今後のALMAなどでの観測が予定されている。
