研究実績の概要 |
1n the past years we found that intergalactic space is filled with dust. Our subsequent work clarified that this component, when added to dust in galactic disc, fills the missing part between the observed and that ought to be from star formation argument. We have already seen (2013) that dust in intergalactic space, to a large extent, resides in MgII clouds. This year we made further investigation for damped Lyman alpha clouds (DLA), mass dnsity of which is much larger than MgII clouds. We confirmed that the dust amount in DLA is significantly smaller than in MgII clouds. A good news is that the dust entry is fully closed in the inventory. By-product is that this motivated studying the relation between the DLA and the MgII cloud. Our work in the last year points towards the idea that MgII clouds are of secondaryorigin. Our study here indicates that DLA is the primary object, but at the same time suggests that DLAs seem to connectto MgII clouds, as a 'single population'. This dilemma is unsolved yet.

理由
What we have obtained in FY2014 is satisfactory: its planned goal itself was satisied, whereas the result differs much from what people (we) thought. This demanded more work to make the paper published, since the referee was exceptionally suspicious about the result we got, which differs from what we usually think/thought. Anyway, this took much time than Iexpected, while no results changed.
On the way, we found that this work with DLA appears to give a clue as to the formation of DLA and MgII: as a first appearance their origins look different. This was a digression I spent much time. After many considerations, nothing convergent, unfortunately, came out yet. So I had to leave this issue open for now.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
I go back to the main stream of my original research. I am working for the inventory concerning the stellar activity, which is the major item and sees much progress in the relevant observation, to make it more accurate, and also attempt to go back with time. I am also making the item concerning relativistic components, which were left blank. This FY I minimised to go abroad and to invite people, as I stuck to the DLA/MgII problem. For the first item mentioned here I am benefitted from the discussion with Jim Peebles (Princeton University) and I need further discussion with him,either I go or he comes. I am working for the second item in collaboration with Kohta Murase (now at Institute for Advanced Study, but shortly will be at Penn State University), who has expert knowledge on the extragalactic cosmic rays. We need more discussions.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
此の仕事の基になる論文は2004年であるが、特に最近になつて引用が急速に増加し(現在総計270回)其等の論文の内容を完全には消化しきれてゐない。亦部分的には私の意圖してゐた事が既に遣られつつある。從つて當初の計画を變更、範囲を縮小すると共に、仕事の方針を新しい方向に轉じて結果を纏めやうとしてゐる為、遅延が生じ未使用額が生じた。

次年度使用額の使用計画 |
論文の纏めに必要な討論は延期したものがあるので、未使用費用は其の儘來年度に繰越て充てられる。更に新しい方向への研究を、早期に進める爲に近赤外測更光較正の準備を行う爲の費用を捻出する。
