研究概要

近世のヨーロッパでは、国境を意識しないコスモポリタンな商人によって、商業情報が伝達された。その中心は、アムステルダムであった。アムステルダムから同質的な商業情報がヨーロッパ各地に拡散し、ヨーロッパは同質的な情報空間となった。それに対しイギリスは、ロンドンを中心にして人為的に形成された「帝国」の内部で、国家の力によって情報が拡散した。このようなアムステルダムとロンドンとの違いは、近世と近代の違いであった。
