研究実績の概要 |
I conducted preliminary research on the history of culture circle theory in Germany and Europe, focussing especially on the works of Fritz Graebner and Wilhlem Schmidt. I presented papers on Oka's reception of this theory, and especially on the role of Korea in his model of Japanese ethnogenesis at the Association for Korean Studies in Europe (AKSE) conference in Copenhagen and at the conference "Japan's Imperial Mythology: De/Sacralization in the Context of Exegesis, Politics and Folklore" at the University of Tuebingen. During my stay in Tuebingen I also collected primary and secondary literature on Wilhlem Schmidt and the Vienna School of Ethnology. The paper presented at Copenhagen will be published in the peer-reviewed journal Korea Europe Review (KER).

2: おおむね順調に進展している
理由
I made good progress in researching the historical background of the culture circle theory. I managed to present preliminary results of my research at two international conferences (only one was originally planned), which will also be published in a journal article (which was not originally planned). On the other hand, I was unable to start research on Japanese academic influences on Oka's model of Japanese ethnogenesis. I was unable to do archival research on Torii Ryuzo and did not manage to draft a chapter on Torii Ryuzo's connection to Oka.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
I intend to do archival research on the Vienna School of Ethnology at the University of Vienna and at the Anthropos Institute in St. Augustin (Germany). I plan to present preliminary results of my research during guest lectures at the University of Vienna and the University of Tuebingen. I intend to visit the Tokushima Prefectural Torii Ryuzo Memorial Museum and do archival research on Torii Ryuzo's connection to Oka Masao, which was originally planned for the first year of the project. Furthermore, I will draft a chapter on Wilhelm Schmidt’s connection to Oka.
