研究実績の概要 |
We studied the electronic and optical properties of quantum-confined nanoparticles. In particular: (i) carbon-based quantum dots with regard to the influence of surface groups on the absorbance and emission properties as well as the long-term stability of the carbon quantum dots under ambient conditions. out experimental observations were rationalized by our first-principles calculations. (ii) magnetic properties of nickel-oxide nanoparticles. We confirmed that the NiO nanoparticles behave similar to bulk NiO as a Mott-insulator. From theory side we demonstrated that one has to go beyond local and semi-local DFT approaches to obtain meaningful results.

理由
Both experiment and theory go along as planned. We could show the possibility of tuning the absorption and emission properties of the nanoparticles and we could demonstrated that the nanoparticles remain stable under ambient conditions which is important for the integration into actual devices.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
We plan to continue our work along the following main points: 1. In this FY we plan to intensive the joint research with our overseas colleagues which was postponed due to travel restriction. 2. Integration of NP into devices. 3. Characterization and mapping of magnetic properties of nickel-oxide nanoparticles using surface-based and field measurements of the magnetization.
