研究実績の概要 |
1. Literature Review: Researchers reviewed existing literature on ESD, AOP, Transformative Learning, Project-based Learning, and Environmental Education to identify gaps.2. Data Collection: Involved 28 RCEs from Asia Pacific, Africa, the Americas, and Europe, using Zoom meetings and in-person focus groups during the Asia Pacific RCE Regional Meeting and the 13th Global RCE Conference (Sept-Nov 2023). Activity reports helped identify RCEs using AOP principles for targeted discussions.3. Data Analysis: Data was analyzed using Dedoose with a detailed coding process. Key themes related to AOP for ESD were identified, and a codebook ensured consistent analysis. 4. Advisory Board and Framework Development: An advisory board guided the project. An AOP framework for ESD was developed, focusing on Problem-Based Issues, Community Engagement, Learner Participation, Empathy, Collaboration, Regional and Cultural Relevance, and Interdisciplinarity. 5. Annual RCE Publication: Researchers contributed to the annual RCE publication themed on Goal 4: Quality Education, featuring 12 RCEs exemplifying AOP methods. Feedback is being incorporated to finalize case studies. 6. Research Dissemination: Early-stage findings were presented at the JASID conference in December 2023. The research was positively received, and a full manuscript is expected to be submitted to UNESCO’s IRE Special Issue by 15 June 2024.

1: 当初の計画以上に進展している
理由
The research progress has surpassed the initial plan due to strategic decisions and enhanced collaboration. An advisory board of ESD experts for AOP was established, providing critical guidance and enriching the research framework. Researchers conducted more comprehensive data collection through Zoom meetings and in-person focus groups with 28 RCEs across Asia Pacific, Africa, the Americas, and Europe, offering deeper insights into their practices and experiences. Early-stage findings were presented at the JASID conference, and contributions were made to UNESCO’s IRE Special Issue, amplifying the research's impact. The initial statistical analysis plan was replaced with qualitative insights and thematic analysis, resulting in more comprehensive and meaningful outcomes.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The project has two milestones remaining for Year 2 and Year 3 which are all interconnected. First, a digital repository will be created to curate promising and innovative AOP ESD projects, using the framework which has been developed in Year 1. The development of the repository is to put the theoretical framework into practice and investigate the effectiveness of the data-informed systematic curation of the innovative AOP ESD cases. To do so, a web developer has been recruited and is currently conducting user surveys to design a user-friendly UI (user interface). Second, ESD educator training, especially within the framework of RCE and beyond will be conducted in Year 3, using the repository. To maximize the cost-effectiveness, the research team will leverage an existing venue of the biannualGlobal RCE Conference in 2025 where a large number of RCE members across the world participate. This will provide the research team with opportunities to disseminate the repository to actual ESD educators on the ground and to reflect their feedback on the enhancement of the repository.
Throughout the remaining research period, the research team will ensure the proactive dissemination of the outputs through journal papers and academic conference presentations.
