| 研究概要 |
Quantative analysis from 2012 data (N = 2,412) was completed in September and October 2013. Presentations on preliminary data analysis were given at several events, notably JALT 2013 and JACET 2013, and one paper using preliminary data analysis was published. Quantitative results indicated that science and engineering students have a strong sense of Ought-to L2 Self and believe that they will need English for their future; however, students also indicate a lack of confidence and little sense of becoming a user of English (Ideal L2 Self). A presentation on the completed quantitative results was done at AAAL 2014, Portland, USA, in March 2014. One paper is awaiting journal review, and three more papers are currently in progress.

理由
In May and June 2013, an online survey was sent to the 180 students. 27 students responded, and interviews were arranged at five schools in Kyushu, Kansai, Kanto, and Hokkaido. 22 students appeared at their first round interviews in July 2013, and permission was received in writing to record, transcribe, and translate their responses to 12 questions about their language learning experiences and motivations. Second round interviews were conducted with 15 students in March, 2014.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
The third and final round of interviews is scheduled for February/March 2015. However, the 2nd round interviews will need to be transcribed, translated, and analyzed from April to August. One presentation has been accepted (AILA2014, Brisbane, Australia), and two more presentation proposals at international conferences are awaiting response. Three papers related to 2012 and 2013 data are in progress. Once interview data has been analyzed, qualitative research results will be written up in at least two separate papers.
