The applicant of this project, Kazuo Mori, has developed an innovative experimental method for examining the memory conformity among co-witnesses, through collaboration with Maryanne Garry of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand (The Mori-Garry Paradigm; Garry, French, Kinzett, & Mori, 2008). In this international project, we have conducted the same memory conformity experiments with witness pairs in different cultural backgrounds, i.e. Japanese and Anglo-Saxon. We have obtained a similar tendency of conformity frequencies among co-witnesses under the same experimental witnessing condition in the two different cultures. The results were also replications of the Garry et al. study.

We have carried out the experiments in two countries and started collecting data at additional three countries, Malaysia, Turkey, and Poland. We presented a part of the research results at the international conference, the SARMAC XI, held at Victoria, Canada, in 2015. Therefore, the research project has been going rather smoothly during the last year.

Three oversea collaborators have started collecting data in Malaysia, Turkey, and Poland. They will complete conducting the experiments by the end of November 2016. Then, we will start analyzing the data and writing up a manuscript for publication in an international journal. We are also planning to present the research results at SARMAC XII to be held at Sydney, Australia, in Januray 2017.

Some pieces of the experimental equipment were obtained with less amount of fund than we had anticipated. Thanks to this savings, a small amount of resource is left. It will be consumed together with the fund for 2016.
|
The residual fund will be spent for purchasing the experimental materials with the fund for 2016.
